Here are a few updates for the month of March.
First up, more news about the local events in support of the National School Walkout to end gun violence in solidarity with the students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida one month after the mass shooting which ended 17 lives.
According to Beth Anderson, Superintendent, Ferndale Unified School District and Principal at Ferndale High School,
“We have not heard any talk of a walkout from our student groups at this time. We will follow the direction given by CDE in that we will try to honor students right to show solidarity and search for solutions as long as they stay here on campus or are attending an event with a parent/guardian. I have attached CDE’s guidance sheet. Additionally, as we have had conversations with students in counseling sessions, open classroom setting and one on one with teachers when asked, our students are saddened by this tragedy but ultimately feel safe here at our schools. We want to couple our support for their safety with current training and will continue to work with law enforcement and our county office to professionally develop as educators to make choices that support the safest environment possible.”
Please Note: The Ferndale Unified School District’s Board of Trustees has changed the March meeting date to Tuesday, March 13 at 7 pm in the Ferndale High library.
