Senator Mike McGuire’s telephone town hall tomorrow
Our State Senator, Mike McGuire, will be holding a telephone town hall tomorrow evening.
- Date: Wednesday, April 29
- Time: 6:30 pm
- How to attend: Dial 844-721-7241, enter code 9362370 and follow the prompts. You will be connected to the live town hall via telephone and you will be able to listen to the doctors providing critical updates. Due to system constraints, the town hall is limited to the first 1,000 participants.
According to Mike’s recent email: “We’ll provide the very latest updates from medical professionals and give a critical update on the statewide response. Of course, we want to hear from you! Email your questions ahead of time and throughout tomorrow’s Town Hall.
The presenters will include Senator McGuire, Humboldt, Trinity and Del Norte County public health officers and a University of California physician focused on infectious diseases.”
Indivisible’s To do list
Almost every week, Indivisible, “The Mothership,” sends out a “To do list” for the week via email. These to do lists often involve actions to move our agenda forward at the national level. You can always find the latest version on Indivisible Ferndale’s “Take Action” page on our website.
This week includes two important actions:
- Take the People’s Agenda Pledge. Find out what the pledge is on our Take Action page here.
- Call our representatives and demand that they vote “no” on the next coronavirus relief package UNLESS it includes the People’s Agenda pledge (see #1 above).
- Vote online to endorse Joe Biden for U.S. president in November.
More Postcards with choices
Jack “the bag man” Ziegler has once again knocked on Indivisible Ferndale’s door and asked if we could write some more postcards for campaigns near and far. We need to “flip the Senate” this time around and here’s a way to participate. Find out more about Flip the West here.
We are currently involved in two Flip the West postcard writing campaigns: AZ-Senate and CO-Senate.
AZ-Senate. Partisan effort organized by Flip the West. Recipients are registered Democrats and persuadable Independents. Script criticizes GOP Incumbent McSally for voting to cut $1 billion from the CDC’s Public Health Fund and urges vote for Democrat Mark Kelly. No near-term deadline.
CO-Senate. Partisan effort organized by Flip the West. Recipients are persuadable Independents. Script ties GOP Incumbent Cory Gardner to Trump and his efforts to repeal Obamacare. Recommended deadline: May 7th
Nine IF members (from our postcard writing team) are participating in this effort. If you are interested in writing postcards to Get Out The Vote (GOTV) to voters in California and beyond, then this is your chance to be involved. Give John Vernon a call at 786-7172 or send an email here.
Outbreak Version 1.0 and now, 2.0
This is not the first time Ferndalers have had to deal with a virus outbreak in their town. In 1999, an African monkey brought a deadly virus to Ferndale. The entire town had to be quarantined, placed under martial law and cutoff from the rest of civilization. But thanks to the strength and resilience of our community, we survived.
Now, Ferndale along with the rest of the world is caught up in the COVID-19 pandemic. Fortunately for Ferndale, some one who was here for Outbreak 1.0 and fought valiantly for our community’s very existence is here now to fight once again.
Thank you, Betty Diehl, for fighting the good fight then and now. Did I mention that in her spare time she has been leading the outstanding Ferndale Community Choir for 50 years? Her daughter, Susan, is so proud.
If you don’t believe me, watch the Outbreak trailer here. I can’t believe she didn’t get screen credit for her performance!
Stay Safe and Strong because Together, We are Indivisible!
